Lesson 02: Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari

 



His name was Abdullah and surname was Abu Musa. His father's name was Qais and mother's name was Tayyaba. Abu Musa Ashari was a resident of Yemen. He belonged to a very famous tribe of Yemen-Ashar and that is why he was called Ashari. Upon his invitation, the mother of Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari embraced Islam and died in Madinah. 



i. Embracing Islam



In Makkah, therefore, after hearing the news of the rising sun of Islam, Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari appeared before the Holy Prophet in search for the truth and embraced Islam. family. Fifty members of his tribe also embraced Islam due to his efforts. Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari migrated from Yemen to Abyssinia with a group and along with Hazrat Jafar Tayyar (4) came to the Prophet when he was coming to Madinah after the conquest of Khyber.



 The Holy Prophet appointed Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari and Hazrat  Muadh bin Jabal as agents over Yemen. He said while doing "Go easy and do not reproach, give good news and do not alienate, obey and do not disagree."(Sahih Muslim: 4526)



ii. Participation in Hajj Tul Wida



When the Holy Prophet announced Hajj in 10 AH, Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari came to Makkah to perform Hajj from Yemen. The Holy Prophet aslo asked "Abdullah bin Qais! Have you come with the intention of Hajj? He said: Yes, the Messenger of Allah, The Holy Prophet said: What was the intention? He replied that the intention is same as that of the Messenger of Allah. The Holy Prophet asked: "Have you brought your sacrifice?"he answered: "No". At this, the Holy Prophet us) directed him to do Tawaaf and Sa'i and to open ehraam after that.



iii. Outstanding Work



Hazrat Umar Farooq appointed Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari as governor of Basra and Kufa. He conquered Nihawand and Isfahan and added them to the Islamic kingdom. In Basra, he constructed a canal which is known as 'Nehr Abi Musa'.



iv. Manners and customs



Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari was a devout, pious and humble natured companion of the Holy Prophet . Fear of God, following the Holy Prophet  chastity and modesty, well-wishing of the Muslim Ummah, simplicity, serving the Holy Prophet , piety and abstinence were the prominent traits of Abu Musa Ashari                                                                                                             



v. Grace and Perfection



Hazrat Abu Musa Asharihad special affection with the Holy Prophet Hazrat Abu Musa was one o f the six people who were allowed to issue fatwas during the Prophethood. Hazrat Ali al-Murtaza says about him that Abu Musa  was painted from head to toe in the color of knowledge.



vi. Publishing knowledge



Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari was striving throughout his life to publish the Quran and Sunnah and to convey it to others. It was also his principle that whatever one knows should be communicated to others. Wherever he would meet a few people, he would convey some hadith to them. There are 360 hadiths narrated from Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari, of which 50 are agreed i.e. they are present both in Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. 



vii. Recitation of The Holy Quran and Melodiousness



Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari had an extraordinary passion and devotion for the recitation of the Holy Quran. He used to spend all his leisure time in the recitation of the Holy Quran. His voice was so nice and melodious that the Holy Prophet used to say: " "He has got a share from Lahn e Dawoodi”



The Messenger of Allah was so much fond of the recitation of Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari  that he used to stay there wherever he listened Hazrat Abu Musa reciting the Holy Quran. Hazrat Umer during his caliphate, used to ask Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari to recite the Holy Quran                                                                                                                                                                 



viii. Death



Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari died in the month of Zul-Hijjah in 44 Hijri. He was about 61 years old at the time of his death. Hazrat Abu Musa Ashari's life is a source of guidance for all of us. We should receive guidance from various aspects of his life and character and follow the teachings of Allah and the Holy Prophet so that we might become successful in this world and the hereafter.
